Chiropractic care helps a range of problems, in fact anything which is related to the spine, muscles or nerves is a potential candidate for gaining benefit. Mostly low back pain (acute and chronic), neck pain, headaches and tension build-up across the shoulders make up the majority of our work. However we regularly treat shoulder, knee and hip complaints as well as sciatica and migraines.
Chiropractic care involves many types of treatment, the main one being spinal manipulation. What kind of treatment you are given is based on an examination and consultation so not everyone is treated the same way.
The examination determines which level or region of the spine needs care, and also what is wrong at that area. For example the area may be inflamed, it might be strained or degenerated. These things affect how the area is treated and which manipulations will work best.
Dr Harris will assess the bones, muscles, nerves and tissues to see how these structures work together or how they may contribute to your symptoms. The aim is to relieve pain, restore function and prevent recurrences.
In some cases only manipulation is needed, whilst in others only physical therapies. A combination of manipulation and therapy is often the most beneficial. Dr Harris recommends that the spines of babies and children are checked from time to time as they grow. In some cases other, seemingly unrelated symptoms, like asthma, respond to chiropractic care.
